Will all BLACKPINK members renew contracts? BLACKPINK’s future as a group remains a question

The contract status of BLACKPINK members with YG Entertainment has become the talk of the town.

Approximately one month from now, BLACKPINK members will be reaching the end of their current contracts with YG Entertainment. While there has been no official news, fans and the general public are wondering whether all members of the YG girl group will renew their contracts, sparking speculation and piquing interest.

Lisa

On July 12, Lisa is rumored to be the only member of BLACKPINK to not renew her contract with YG. Munhwa Ilbo stated that Lisa was in discussion with YG Entertainment and has not reached a final decision, citing claims about YG being unable to confirm Lisa’s schedule after August. However, in response to Munhwa Ilbo, YG affirmed, “It’s because of the tour and personal schedule, and it has nothing to do with Lisa’s contract renewal decision.”

Previously, in 2023, Munhwa Ilbo also gave their take on the situation and concluded that the renewal process is difficult because the “ransom” of individual members has risen a lot.

Munhwa Ilbo said that YG was under a lot of pressure in order to gain a competitive edge against other lucrative deals from foreign companies. An industry insider revealed. “I know Lisa who has absolute influence in the Southeast Asian market including [her] hometown Thailand has been offered guarantees of 100 billion won in China and other countries.”

Jennie

Apart from Lisa, Jennie was also rumored to be the only member to leave YG. However, YG had not spoken up to clarify.

However, fans believe this to be groundless rumors and state otherwise. They advance that Jennie is similar to G-Dragon in that they are both “core members” and carry the distinctive  “YG color” since their debut.

During her time with YG, Jennie has received special treatment from the company. She got the chance to collaborate with G-Dragon in “Black” in 2013. She was also the first member to go solo and the first to earn ambassador status with Chanel, which explains why Jennie has the highest chance to renew her contract with YG.

Jisoo

Apart from Lisa, Jisoo is one of the three members who are showing positive progress in her renewal decision. While Jisoo was the latest to receive a solo debut, she has garnered impressive achievements.

Moreover, Jisoo is taking her first steps into the acting scene and received insurmountable success across Asia thanks to “Snowdrop.” Therefore, fans speculate that renewing her contract would ultimately benefit the “FLOWER” singer.

Rosé

Recently, Malaysian news is buzzing with the information that Rosé will be the only member to continue working with YG. However, in early 2023, netizens found out that the President of A&R for Capitol Record recently followed her on Instagram. Fans take this as a sign that Rosé might have received a similar profitable offer from a foreign label. However, some netizens remain skeptical, stating that they will need more information about a concrete deal with Capitol Record before believing it.

Will BLACKPINK renew contracts with YG Entertainment?

Following BLACKPINK’s stop in Asia, the YG girl group will return to North America for a series of encore performances before wrapping up their world tour.

Because BLACKPINK is bringing jaw-dropping concert revenue to YG Entertainment, netizens assume the company will not easily let them go without putting on a fight.

Moreover, when rumors of BLACKPINK moving on to The Black Label circulated, YG quickly refuted them, further strengthening fans’ stance that the girl group will continue working for YG Entertainment after 7 long years.
