“Wife Resident Life” Filming Progress: Script Revised, Release Delayed, Go Yoon-jung Witnesses
Due to various issues, tvN’s “Wise Resident Life” has revised the script and delayed its release to the second half of 2024
Originally scheduled to premiere in May after “Queen of Tears” ended, “Wise Resident Life” recently changed its release date to August but there is a high possibility that it will be delayed even later. It seems like fans will have to wait a little longer to see Go Yoon-jung and Shin Si-a in white blouses as first-year obstetrics and gynecology residents.
The reason behind this delay is the collective resignation of residents as the government decided to increase the number of admissions to medical schools by 2000. Although doctors and residents are demanding the abolition of medical school admission expansion and calling for the improvement of medical working conditions, it is true that the public anxiety and discomfort due to the lack of medical staff is worsening. On April 4th, the President and the Chairman of the Korean Intern Resident Association had their first private meeting but they could only confirm differences in positions without any progress.
As such, the promotion schedule for “Wise Resident Life” has been suspended due to the public’s backlash towards the doctor’s strike. An official stated, “All promotion and marketing plans, including on-site photo and teaser video shoots, have been suspended. The problem is that we cannot postpone the launch indefinitely due to our contract with the OTT platform”.
They continued, “After the doctor’s strike, some parts of the script have been revised and we needed to film two versions of the script”, adding “The actors and staff are having a hard time due to the excessive amount of re-shoots, but everyone is doing their best and supporting each other well. Filming is expected to end in May”. The production team of “Wise Resident Life” reportedly rents two hospitals for their shoots, and the main set is the newly constructed Severance Hospital in Yongin, Gyeonggi-do.
A staff said, “With the cooperation of the hospital, we are renting the first floor for the shoots. However, whenever Go Yoon-jung appears, the patients and even hospital visitors flock to see her.” On the online community Mom Cafe for Yongin area, witnesses of Go Yoon-jung are pouring out, such as “I saw Go Yoon-jung in person and she’s really a doll”, “I fell in love with her face”, “I met Go Yoon-jung at the parking lot”, etc.
“Wise Resident Life” is a spin-off drama for “Hospital Playlist Seasons 1 & 2”. With the participation of director Shin Won-ho and writer Lee Woo-jung as creators, this drama is the debut work of “Hospital Playlist” and “Reply 1988” assistant writer Kim Song-hee. It deals with friendship, love and growth of OB-GYN residents in Korea in the low-birth rate era. The project is arousing keen attention by casting star actress Go Yoon-jung, who became popular after starring in “Alchemy of Souls”, “Moving”, “Death’s Game”, etc.
