Urban Zakapa’s Jo Hyun-ah Exposes Agency’s Unfair Treatments

Singer Jo Hyun-ah poured complaints about Abyss Company’s mistreatment of Urban Zakapa

On October 6th, Jo Hyun-ah posted a long article on her personal Instagram Story with the title “Official Statment From Andrew Company’s Jo Hyun-ah / Abyss Company’s Jo Hyun-ah”. Regarding the reason she published the post, Jo Hyun-ah tagged the official account of Abyss Company, saying “There’s no answer from them”.

Confirming that she has terminated her contract as of today, Jo Hyun-ah shared, “I tried to stay until the contract ended, but it’s been more than 600 days since we last did a national tour. I sent the company demos for our album but they haven’t let us release any new album for a very long time, so I’m wondering if they really want to stop Urban Zakapa’s activities”, adding that she didn’t receive any support as an artist.

She continued, “The last time we sang at a wedding, all the members, including me, had to go by taxi without staff. Since it happened so often, I’m getting curious about the cost of hiring staff”, adding “Regarding Abyss’s family photo, you said in an official statement that there was a reason for it. Based on the standard contract, can the company leave some artists out like that?”, expressing discomfort over Abyss’s family photo without Urban Zakapa.

Jo Hyun-ah confessed, “If you don’t let us join such activities, please let us release an album… do performances and events… just once”, adding “I want to do Urban Zakapa activities”.

Revealing that she has known the CEO for a long time, Jo Hyun-ah suggested, “We’ve been friends since middle school, so why don’t you let us do music? If you don’t intend to do that, I would appreciate it if you could release an official statement and apology, and announce plans for albums, activities, and concerts on the official account, CEO”.

Lastly, she said, “We’re not just singers who make money. We’re singers under Abyss”, adding “The group Urban Zakapa was a member of Abyss. I’ve terminated my contract as of today, but please don’t neglect the remaining members and treat them according to the standard contract. The other two Urban Zakapa members are also sons of some families.”

Earlier on September 30th, Abyss Company released on its official SNS a group photo of their singers to celebrate the Chuseok holiday. However, Urban Zakapa, who has been with the company since the beginning, was missing from the family photo, sparking a controversy. In this regard, the agency explained, “Due to the contract termination of former artist Jo Hyun-ah, it was difficult for Urban Zakapa to appear in the content as a whole group”.
