The 9-year friendship of NCT’s Jeno and Jaemin: From entering SM on the same day to becoming the most popular “ship” in NCT
From 3-hour senior and junior to besties, and members of the same group, NCT’s Jeno and Jaemin are known as soulmates with a friendship that is even more precious than a romantic relationship.
Within K-pop groups, there are always close relationships and special bonds between the members. Not family, relatives or schoolmates, the ones whom Kpop idols spend the most time with during their youth are their fellow members. The members go through the difficult trainee days, overcome hardships together, then debut and participate in different activities together.
One of the duos with the largest fan base in the popular boy group NCT is NCT Dream’s Jeno and Jaemin. Thanks to their countless sweet moments even before debut, Jeno and Jaemin are one of the most “shipped” couples in NCT. Looking back at the heartfelt 9-year friendship of the two male idols, it’s not difficult to understand why the “NoMin” couple has so many fans.
Entering SM on the same day by chance

Jeno and Jaemin happened to join SM Entertainment on the same day. They first met when they were only 14 years old. Since Jeno arrived 3 hours before Jaemin, Jeno is Jaemin’s 3-hour “sunbaenim” (senior). From the first time he met Jaemin, Jeno had to say, “Why are you so handsome?”. From that moment on, they became friends. Both Jeno and Jaemin went to School of Performing Arts Seoul (SOPA) and majored in Practical Dance. Everyday back when they were highschoolers, Jeno and Jaemin waited for the bus to go to school together.
Although they dropped out of high school after a year to focus on their idol careers, the best friend duo still have many memories during their time at SOPA. Jeno and Jaemin often waited for the school bus together, sat next to each other in class, studied together and both… forgot to do their homework. There are also many anecdotes about their kind personality when they were in highschool.
There is a popular story about Jeno and Jaemin during their highschool days. Hina is an SM female trainee the same age as Jeno and Jaemin. Hina was always seen sitting in between Jeno and Jaemin on the subway. Hina also covered her legs with a coat. A moment that may sound simple, but it shows that Jeno and Jaemin were taking care of Hina in crowded places in Korea where there is a common issue of hidden cameras, and girls who have to wear short skirt uniforms are often the victims.

Jeno and Jaemin were first introduced to the public through the SMRookies project. On August 24, 2016, the two officially debuted in NCT Dream, a subunit of NCT. Jeno and Jaemin often stick together like glue. From going to work together, staying close with one another either on stage, backstage or anywhere, Jeno and Jaemin are always seen taking care of each other. The two also do not hesitate to admit that they are each other’s best friends.
Often have “private schedules” together
The two often pay attention to each other’s individual activities. At the time when Jeno was MC for the music show The Show, because Jaemin knew he was alone, Jaemin secretly visited Jeno and gave him a lot of spiritual support.
Jeno and Jaemin also regularly film personal content. Jeno and Jaemin’s trip to Busan to shoot for the show “Battle Trip” is like a “honeymoon” because the two really enjoyed this outing together. Their series of sweet moments made fans flutter.
Jeno and Jaemin also participated in the A-TEEN project together. They looked like a real couple!
Jeno is particularly fond of cycling. So Jaemin became his companion on every journey. Once, the two rode 70km together.

Jeno also shared when talking about Jaemin, “More than a friend, he is my family”.
