According to data obtained by Yoon Doo-hyun, a member of the National Assembly’s Science, ICT, Information, Broadcasting and Communications Committee, on October 1st, 1146 complaints have been filed against the August 19th broadcast of “Unanswered Questions” and are being reviewed by the Korea Communications Standards Commission.
That broadcast included interviews with families of FIFTY FIFTY members, who were having a dispute with their agency. It was pointed out that the content of the broadcast showed one-sided opinions with a biased attitude toward the girl group.
The second program that received the most complaints was SBS TV’s “SBS 8 News”. It was due to the March 13th broadcast about the distortion of actress Michelle Yeoh’s Academy Awards acceptance speech.
508 complaints were filed to point out that the program broadcast different content from Michelle Yeoh’s actual speech, except for certain words (And ladies). The Korea Communications Standards Commission has passed a ‘suggestion’ at the administrative guidance level regarding this matter.
The third program on the list was MBN’s “Fire Trotman” with 175 complaints about its February 21st broadcast. It was due to the cast member Hwang Young-woong’s school violence controversy. 84 complaints were filed against the episode on February 28th for the same reason.
MBC TV’s “True Story of Exploration” broadcast on March 3rd received 135 complaints as it reported unconfirmed content related to Hwang Young-woong’s school violence scandal.
In addition, 137 complaints were filed against tvN’s “You Quiz on the Block” episode on August 16th, which was controversial due to the expressions disparaging certain baseball teams. JTBC’s drama “Doctor Cha” (May 6th broadcast) got 135 complaints and TV Chosun’s “Park Jung-hoon’s Politics” (July 31st broadcast) was reported with 43 complaints.
