TVXQ’s Changmin Annoyed by Junior Idols Who Do “This”, Receives Mixed Reaction

On December 27, a video titled “Sung Si-kyung will meet Max Changmin. The Standard of an Idol!” was published on the official YouTube channel of Sung Si-kyung.

Here, TVXQ’s Changmin, a legendary 2nd Gen K-pop idol, appeared and confessed his honest feelings about junior idols.

In particular, Changmin said, “Personally, I feel a little happy but also annoyed when junior idols say something like ‘I want to be like you’. I don’t think they are saying that because they genuinely like me or have respect for me”.

“I personally think that they are just looking at where I am now and feeling envious over it”, the male idol also shared.

According to Changmin, he joined SM Entertainment at the age of 14 and debuted as TVXQ after a year of training.

“I didn’t start because I like (this career). The casting staff approached me and suggested that I audition, and although I didn’t know much, I felt flattered that they noticed and acknowledged me”, he also confessed, adding, “That was how things started, and now I have come really far”.

Hearing this, Sung Si-kyung responded, “The fact that you are still working and standing on top of the industry is why junior idols think they want to be like you”.

So far, Changmin’s statement of being annoyed when junior idols said they wanted to be like him has drawn a lot of mixed reactions, with many sympathizing while others criticizing Changmin’s mindset.

Below are some comments from netizens:

  • This is such a twisted mindset… The junior idols are probably just making small talks, only to have their seniors talk behind their backs like this
  • In the future, no junior idols will dare to talk to him any more
  • I can sort of understand why he thinks it. Yes it is nice to year but still annoying. People are just saying this as lip service most of the time and it feels insincere
  • He’s taking it too personally, it’s just a phase people say
  • Telling someone “I want to be you” or “I’m envious of you” doesn’t sound like a praise to me
  • While I understand how he feels, but it feels a bit too much to describe it as “annoying”
