“I got paid a few days ago,” Song Joong-ki said
Song Joong-ki, who drew attention by appearing in the movie “Hopeless” without receiving a fee, recently shared that he finally received something instead.
Song Joong-ki made the remarks at the opening talk of the film “Hopeless” at 28th Busan International Film Festival’s event “Today of Korean Films: Special Premiere” held on the outdoor stage of the Seoul Film Center in Haeundae-gu, Busan on the afternoon of October 7th.
“Hopeless” is a low-budget movie. Song Joong-ki, who was fascinated by the storyline, reportedly expressed his intention to appear in this movie first. Earlier, he confessed, “I didn’t receive any fee because I was worried that the original charm of the work would decrease if commercial elements were included due to my appearance. It’s not a big deal, but I was embarrassed because it was talked about too much.”
Asked again about his unpaid role, he said, “Not receiving fees is not important at all, but it is embarrassing that there are so many articles.” Still humbled, he said, “A few days ago, I had a meal with the CEO of the production company and received the watch he was wearing at that time as a gift. I got a fee as a watch,” showing his yellow watch.
“Hopeless” is a story about an 18-year-old boy who wants to escape from hellish reality. Song Joong-ki plays Chi Gun, the middle boss of a criminal organization who helps the boy and then leads him to a dangerous world, showing a cold and lonely side.
“Hopeless ” will be released on October 11th.
