The court announces the first trial ruling for Kim Sae Ron’s drunk driving accident

Actress Kim Sae Ron (23 years old) was sentenced to a fine in her first trial for causing a drunk driving accident.

On April 5th, Judge Lee Hwan Ki of the Seoul Central District Court fined Kim Sae Ron, who was indicted without detention on charges of violating the Road Traffic Act (drunk driving), 20 million won.

The court stated, “Drunk driving is a crime that can cause serious damage to people’s lives and physical properties, and severe punishment is necessary. In addition, Kim Sae Ron’s driving distance was not short. However, we decided on this sentence considering the fact that she admitted her wrongdoing and had compensated for most of the damage”.

Appearing in court, Kim Sae Ron wore a black jacket and pants. She received the first trial sentence with a calm expression and left no special comment.

On May 18th last year, Kim Sae Ron collided with guardrails and street trees several times while driving drunk in Cheongdam-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul. As a result of, a transformer was hit, and electricity in 57 stores nearby was cut off for about three hours

Kim Sae Ron’s blood alcohol level at that time was measured to be over 0.2%, far exceeding the standard for license revocation.

The accident also caused a power outage in Sinsa-dong and Apgujeong-dong, and traffic lights were paralyzed.

On the 8th of last month, the prosecution demanded a fine of 20 million won for Kim Sae Ron and a fine of 5 million won for the passenger who was in the car when the actress caused the accident.

Standing in court, Kim Saeron admitted to all charges and said, “I am really sorry, and I will never let this happen again.”

Kim Sae Ron’s legal representative explained, “Kim Sae Ron is supporting her family as the eldest daughter and breadwinner. Her family is also suffering financial difficulties after paying large amounts of damage compensations”. However, this statement sparked controversy
