According to The Weeknd, his goal for “The Idol” is to provide audiences with a different perspective on fame. He even claimed that the series is “almost educational” when it comes to being incredibly famous, where one is always surrounded by people with unknown intentions.

“And none of this is a surprise. I’m excited for everyone to watch the rest of the show,” he said, adding, “But of course, I’ve been very fortunate to have people around me that I’ve known almost my entire life, which is important, and is a gift.”

On the other hand, every since the 1st episode of “The Idol”, which was released on June 4th,

Abel “The Weeknd” Tesfaye has been criticized for his “comically bad” acting. In fact, Variety even described his skills as “non-existent”.

“The Idol” as a whole also faced heavy backlash for its unnecessarily explicit scenes that makes the series feel like a “sordid male fantasy”.
