On Dec 28th, News Magazine Chicago released a video of an interview with the late Lee Sun-kyun on Oct 7th. Afterwards, on Oct 19th, Lee Sun-kyun was reported as L, a top star under internal investigation for drug allegations.
News Magazine Chicago stated, “The formal last interview of actor Lee Sun-kyun, who left the world on Dec 27th, 2023, was filmed on Oct 7th, 2023 in downtown Chicago. At that time, actor Lee Sun-kyun was invited to the Asian Pop-up Cinema and was about to receive the ‘Excellent Achievement in Film’ award.”
In the interview, when asked to compare his early days as an actor with the present, Lee Sun-kyun replied, “It’s going better than I thought. I’ve experienced things I couldn’t even dream of. Receiving the Best Picture award for ‘Parasite’ at the Academy Awards, I felt like I was dreaming, receiving applause from many Hollywood celebrities.”
He expressed, “It seems like the award this time is for the effort I’ve put in without giving up. Regarding future works, I don’t have a greedy desire to do something specific. I want to go through the process of creating one character at a time.”
When asked about “acting”, Lee Sun-kyun summarized it as “homework” and “diary”. He explained, “In the past, I thought of it as continuous homework given to me. I’m not a systematic person, but I have a desire to do homework well. Acting now seems like a ‘diary’. Winning the award this time made me think that looking at the things piled up in my diary isn’t bad. I want to diligently write another diary and continue to do well.“
