While some fans are excited about the upcoming movie, others have criticized Disney for “ruining” the original story by changing the race of Ariel. The controversy has divided fans, with some arguing that if the actress is good at acting, singing and fits the role, race should not matter.

Director Rob Marshall has expressed strong support for Bailey’s casting, saying, “Halle Bailey was the best choice for the role of Ariel. We did not cast her because she is black, but because she was perfect for the part.”

He further added, “Of course, Ariel has to be a good singer. Halle Bailey has a unique, elegant, and beautiful voice that captivates the prince’s heart and keeps him searching for her throughout the entire film.

Despite the director’s confidence in the casting choice, some fans continue to voice their disapproval of a black Ariel. As the film’s release date approaches on May 26th, many are curious to see how audiences will react to the new version of the classic Disney tale.
