Top star L, who is currently under internal investigation for drug-related allegations, has been identified as actor Lee Sun-kyun
Lee Sun-kyun’s agency said in an official statement on October 20th, “We are confirming the allegations currently being raised against actor Lee Sun-kyun, and we intend to faithfully engage in investigations by authorities that may proceed in the future.” They did not admit or deny the allegations surrounding the drug use.
The Incheon Metropolitan Police Agency’s Drug Crime Investigation Unit is conducting an internal investigation into Lee Sun-kyun and 7 other individuals on charges related to the Narcotics Control Act. The internal investigation is a preliminary step to determine whether there are any circumstances that warrant launching a formal investigation. The individuals under investigation include Lee Sun-kyun, the third generation of a chaebol family, aspiring entertainer and others with a history of drug use.
The police are currently investigating whether these individuals used various types of narcotics, including marijuana, multiple times at their residences and entertainment establishments from January. Last month, the police received a tip-off about drug distribution in a Gangnam entertainment establishment and reportedly obtained information related to Lee Sun-kyun during the investigation process.
The scandal involving Lee Sun-kyun, who had built an image as a gentle and warm public figure, has shocked the entertainment industry. However, as the police have not initiated a formal investigation yet, Lee Sun-kyun has taken a cautious stance and is closely monitoring the situation. Lawyer Park Sung-chul from the law firm Jipyong, who acts as legal representative for Lee Sun-kyun, stated, “Whether the allegations are true or not is not yet confirmed. It’s challenging to comment on that part as the factual details are not yet clarified.“
Lee Sun-kyun has not been summoned by the police. Lawyer Park said, “We have not received any contact from the police.” Since the police have not revealed specific evidence or allegations at this stage, Lee Sun-kyun seems to be refraining from responding prematurely. This could potentially cause significant damage to his upcoming projects. Already, warning signals have been raised for his next works, including the movies “The Land of Happiness”, “Project Silence” and the drama “No Way Out”.
However, Lee Sun-kyun has recently filed a criminal complaint with the Incheon District Prosecutor’s Office against a person identified as “A” in connection with this case, claiming that he received constant blackmail and threats from A. Regarding the allegations of extortion and threats, lawyer Park said, “Since the investigation is ongoing, we cannot provide detailed information.” There have been reports claiming that Lee Sun-kyun paid hundreds of millions of won to “A”. However, when asked if “A” was a drug supplier, lawyer Park drew a line, “Lee Sun-kyun did not give money to the drug supplier.”
The police plan to summon related individuals for questioning when they gather sufficient evidence and statements. Lee Sun-kyun’s agency HODU&U Entertainment stated, “We will respond strongly if false information is circulated due to posts containing malicious or false content. We are very sorry for causing concern.“
