According to Star News on Jan 18th, Sojang filed a petition of appeal through legal representation on Jan 17th, expressing dissatisfaction with the court’s decision.
By belatedly filing a petition of appeal, Sojang expressed an unwillingness to admit the charges. As a result, the case will now move to the appeals court.
Earlier, on Jan 17th, Starship Entertainment mentioned the civil lawsuit filed by Jang Won-young against Sojang, stating, “The other party did not respond, resulting in a default judgment in our favor.”
A default judgment in civil litigation law means that when a party does not rebut the facts asserted by the opposing party or when one of the parties fails to appear on a specified date, that fact is considered admitted.
According to the media, the 50th Division of the Seoul Central District Court is scheduled to hold a pleading date for the 100 million won damage lawsuit filed by Starship Entertainment against Sojang on Jan 24th.
Jang Won-young filed a 100 million won damage lawsuit against Sojang in October last year.
This lawsuit was submitted to the court in October last year. After the court requested a response from the defendant and there was no response, the court ruled in favor of Jang Won-young without a trial.
Sojang is a cyber-wrecker YouTuber who indiscriminately spreads false information and malicious rumors about celebrities. They faced criticism from fans for spreading false information about many domestic artists, especially severe fake news about Jang Won-young.
According to The Law Times on Jan 17th, Sojang claimed that they “did not know it was false information” or “had the right to know about celebrities“.
