“Singers who shined in 2022”, BTS tops 10-30 age group, Lim Young Woong triumphs the 40s and older

Boy group BTS and trot singer Lim Young Woong are selected as singers who shined the most in the year 2022 

On December 19th, polling agency Gallup Korea announced the results of their “Singers who shined in 2022” survey. According to this survey, BTS won 29.4% of support among people in their 30s or younger (13-39 years old age group), while Lim Young Woong topped the 40s and older age group with 33% of support.

The results were obtained by Gallup Korea via a survey from July to November 2022, which interviewed 5,302 people aged 13 or older on a nationwide scale (excluding Jeju). Results are separated into two age groups: 10-30s and 40s or older.

It is known that BTS has topped the survey in the 10-30s age group for 5 consecutive years since 2018.

BTS is now the most influential Korean act globally, and has set a new record in the history of pop music. However, after the release of their anthology album “Proof” in June this year, 9 years since their debut, BTS temporarily suspended group activities and is focusing on solo promotions.

BTS RM has since entered the top of various music charts in numerous nations with his 1st album “Indigo”. Meanwhile, Jungkook was highly praised for “Dreamers” – an official theme song of the 2022 FIFA World Cup, as well as his performance at the tournament’s opening ceremony. Jin, the oldest member, enlisted in the army in early December, and BTS’ last full group performance was their October Busan concert “Yet to Come”. 

On the other hand, in the rankings for the 30s and younger age group, the 2nd position belongs to IU (26.6%), while BLACKPINK came 3rd with 16.6%. The 4th, and 5th positions belong to IVE (13.0%), Lim Young Woong (6.5%), and NewJeans (6.5%), respectively.

Following them are Zico (6.1%) in 7th place, aespa (5.7%) in 8th place, (G)I-DLE (4.7%) in 9th place, and Lee Mu Jin (4.4%) in 10th place. 

Singers/groups that acquired more than 1.5% but ranked outside of the top 10 include SEVENTEEN (3.4%), MeloMance (3.2%), Psy (3.1%), TWICE (2.6%), Sung Si Kyung (2.3%),  Taeyeon (2.2%), Jannabi (2.1%), 10cm (2.1%), Im Chang Jung (2.0%), BE’O (1.9%), Paul Kim (1.7%), Younha (1.7%), LE SSERAFIM and Red Velvet (1.5%), SNSD (1.5%), and Jung Dong Won (1.5%).

Meanwhile, Lim Young Woong has triumphed in the 40s and older age group for 3 consecutive years since 2020. 

Debuting in 2016, he became the final winner in the 2020 TV Chosun audition program “Mr. Trot”. Ever since, he has established himself as the most popular star in performances, broadcasts, and advertisements. This year, he released his first full-length album, “IM HERO”, held a national tour concert, and communicated with fans.

In the 40s and older category, Jang Yoon Jung (17.2%) came in 2nd.  3rd place belongs to Young Tak (12.4%), while joint 4th places are assumed by Song Ga In and Lee Chan Won (10.4% each). In 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th, and 10th are Na Hoon Ah (9.9%), Jin Seong (8.7%),  Jung Dong Won (7.6%),  Jang Min Ho (6.6%), and Kim Ho Joong (6.0%), respectively. 

Singers/groups that acquired more than 1.5% but ranked outside of the top 10 include  IU (5.9%), BTS (5.6%), Kim Yeon Ja (3.1%), Nam Jin (2.8%), Lee Moon Sae (2.5%), Im Chang Jung (2.3%), Sul Woon Do (2.2%), PSY (2.2%), Cho Yong Pil (2.1%), Lee Seung Chul (1.9%), Yang Ji Eun (1.9%), Lee Sun Hee (1.9%), Sung Si Kyung (1.9%), BLACKPINK (1.7%), Joo Hyun Mi (1.6%), Jo Hang Jo (1.6%), Park Chang Geun (1.5%), and Lee Mu Jin (1.5%).
