Shin Se Kyung Criticized For Being Too Pretty Dressing Up As A Man In New Drama

“Captivating the King” is a new weekend drama produced by tvN and released simultaneously on Netflix. The film has the participation of famous actors and actresses such as Jo Jung Suk and Shin Se Kyung. Despite the audience’s high expectations, the first episodes received mixed opinions regarding the female lead.

Captivating the King Shin Se Kyung

Shin Se Kyung’s character in the movie is Kang Hee Soo, a beautiful, attractive, talented Baduk player. To get revenge, she pretended to be a man, took the name Kang Mong Woo and made money by playing Baduk. Because of this, she got to know and became close friends with Yi In (Jo Jung Suk), prince Jinhan, who will later take over the throne. Originally, Yi In was also a Baduk genius, so he made friends and gradually became close to Hee Soo. Yi In did not know that Hee Soo intentionally approached him for revenge, and did not expect that the two would soon fall in love with each other.

Captivating the King Shin Se Kyung

In the early episodes, Shin Se Kyung mainly appeared pretending to be a man and this caused her to face extremely strong controversy. Korean media and netizens believe that Shin Se Kyung’s delicate and beautiful face, her smooth, flawless skin, her willow-leaf eyebrows, sparkling eyes, and pink lip gloss aren’t masculine enough. Many viewers agree that Shin Se Kyung wears too much makeup. When compared with other actresses such as Moon Geun Young, Yoon Eun Hye and Park Eun Bin, who also take on female roles dressing up as men in the past, Shin Se Kyung is pointed out to have big problems with her makeup. In addition, her gentle and shy gestures also made her fail in this role.
