SBS Fri-Sat Dramas Perform Sluggishly Even With ‘Hit’ Writer Kim Soon-ok And Song Kang & Kim Yoo-jung’s Visuals

Raising expectations with Song Kang and Kim Yoo-jung’s visual combination, “My Demon” is still showing poor performance

Airing as the follow-up drama to “The Escape of the Seven”, “My Demon” is a fantasy romcom about devilish chaebol Do Do-hee (Kim Yoo-jung) having a contractual marriage with Gu-won (Song Kang), a demon who temporarily loses his power.

“The Escape of the Seven” marked the reunion of star writer Kim Sook-ok and director Joo Dong-min after SBS’s hit series “Penthouse” so it already drew attention from the production stage. However, due to continuous controversies over its provocative materials, the drama started with a 6.6% rating but fell to 5.6% in episode 5. Its last episode ended with a disappointing result of 6.6%.

As such, many viewers raised expectations for the follow-up drama “My Demon” with the combination of “visual actors” Song Kang and Kim Yoo-jung to help SBS regain the honor of Fri-Sat dramas. However, “My Demon” recorded only 4.5% in episode 1 then immediately dropped to 3.4% in the second broadcast and fell behind its rival drama “The Story of Park’s Marriage Contract” led by Lee Se-young and Bae In-hyuk.

Earlier, SBS’s drama “The First Responders” was overshadowed by MBC’s “My Dearest Part 1”. Then the highly-anticipated project “The Escape of The Seven” by hitmaker Kim Soon-ok also failed to surpass “My Dearest Part 2”.

SBS made a good start at the beginning of this year with “Taxi Driver 2”, “Dr. Romantic 3” and “Revenant” but got pushed back by “My Dearest” from the second half of the year.

Since “My Demon” has just started airing, many people are raising hope that Song Kang and Kim Yoo-jung to make a breakthrough with better acting performances in the latter episodes and recover the sluggish rating situation.
