“Celebrity” is a Netflix series that portrays the fancy and fierce reality of celebrities when Ah Ri (Park Gyu Young) enters the world of fame and money. Ah Ri goes from being an ordinary office worker to becoming an influencer with 1.3 million followers overnight.

During the interview, Park Gyu Young said, “Thankfully, when I received the script, it was a story related to influencers. I had no reason to refuse such a character that can actively engage in stories related to relationships on social media”, adding “I also enjoyed watching the director’s previous works. That’s why I really wanted to join the project”.

“The writer and director did a lot of research to prepare for this work. However, since we were more familiar with SNS than the director, we provided our ideas and worked together. Everyone agreed that the story should be portrayed realistically”, she said.

Regarding her character Ari, Park Gyu Young said, “Ari has three levels of changes. The first stage is when she’s an ordinary office worker. The second stage is when she becomes a celebrity then the third stage is as Ah Ri, who does live broadcasts. I believed that there should be visual changes in addition to the emotional and acting aspects so that viewers could immerse themselves in the story easier”.

The actress continued, “The director also gave lots of opinions on styling. Netflix also sponsored lots of expensive clothes and accessories to help my acting. I was so grateful for such an experience”. Revealing that Ari’s bobbed hairstyle was her own idea, Park Gyu Young said, “The responses were so good. I think it was a good choice”.

Park Gyu Young started out as a model before pursuing acting. In this regard, she said, “I live my daily life quite ordinarily. I don’t do much besides going between home, filming sets, and exercising, so I haven’t felt much of a difference since my debut. However, after my works were released, I could feel the changes. As ‘It’s Okay to Not Be Okay’ and ‘Sweet Home’ became global hits, my Instagram followers increased significantly. After the release of ‘Celebrity’, I gained about 140,000 followers.”

Mentioning the message about malicious comments conveyed through “Celebrity”, Park Gyu Young said, “It’s an undeniable fact that actors are exposed to the public, and receiving various feedback is part of this job. However, celebrities also suffer hardships. I accept the parts that are acceptable and let go of negative and excessive ideas”, adding, “When I see my colleagues suffering, I hope there would be an improvement in the society. That’s what I want to deliver through this drama”.

Regarding viewers’ reactions to “Celebrity”, the actress said, “I’m grateful for all the feedback and reviews. Many people complimented my acting improvement”. She honestly shared, “I found it amazing to have my face shown on the poster that big. I also feel responsible for this work. This drama reminds me that I should work with a greater sense of responsibility”.

Park Gyu Young will join Season 2 of the global drama hit “Squid Game”. In this regard, she said, “I don’t care about the scale of the work because I only consider the story and the character I play”. She added, “I often get nervous during any script reading, but meeting such great senior actors made me even more nervous. Since there are many viewers who are looking forward to it, I will work even harder to meet those expectations.”

Following “Celebrity”, Park Gyu Young will continue filming “Squid Game Season 2” and “Mangnaein”. Revealing that she has no intention of taking a break, the actress said, “I have so many things I want to do that I don’t feel the need to rest. It doesn’t feel tiring to work, and every time I finish something, I have the opportunity to interact with the staff and other actors. I am learning so much as an actress, and also growing a lot as Park Gyu Young. I think I’m a bit greedy, but I don’t really want to take a break right now.”
