“Revenant” defeats “King the Land” in this weekend’s drama competition with a narrow rating gap

According to Nielsen Korea on July 2nd, the new episode of JTBC’s “King the Land”, which aired on the 1st, recorded a nationwide rating of 9.7%. Starting with 5.1% in episode 1, “King the Land” continued rising steadily, reaching 7.5% in episode 2, 9.1% in episode 3, and 9.6% in episode 4, breaking its own highest rating record in each episode.

On the same day, “Revenant” aired episode 4 and recorded 10%. It’s a 1% drop from the rating of its previous episode (11%). Nevertheless, “Revenant” is still ahead of “King the Land” with a small gap. In real-time, the rating soared to 12%, ranking 1st among Saturday miniseries of the same broadcasting time.

All the broadcasters, including SBS, tvN, JTBC, MBC and TV Chosun, have introduced new weekend dramas since last month. JTBC’s Sat-Sun series “King the Land” topped the rating chart when it was first released, but lost the No.1 spot when “Revenant” premiered.

“Revenant” is a Korean-style occult mystery thriller drama about a woman possessed by a devil and a man who can see the devil digging into mysterious deaths. The drama has drawn keen attention from its production stage because of the collaboration of writer Kim Eun Hee and actress Kim Tae Ri.

Starring Lee Jun Ho and Yoona, “King the Land” tells about Goo Won, who hates fake smiles, and ‘smiling queen’ Cheon Sa Rang, who has to smile all the time, creating days where they can smile brightly at the VVIP Lounge “King the Land”, known as the dream of hoteliers.
