On November 13, Red Velvet returned with another masterpiece – their 3rd full album “Chill Kill”. This marks Red Velvet’s first full album in six years, and includes a total of 10 diverse tracks, including the title track ‘Chill Kill.’

The title track, “Chill Kill”, is a dramatic and unconventional pop dance song that features bold bass movements, string melodies, and vibrant and dreamy synth and bell sounds, fitting of its name.

“Chill Kill” is a new title that has the meaning of “an event or existence that breaks silence.” The lyrics expressed the narrative of a relationship in which one’s world was changed by the sudden appearance of “Chill Kill.” It reveals the characteristic of “two-sidedness” of longing for others and singing of hope even in the midst of a tragedy, in which a calm life has become incomplete. The vocals dynamically change along the emotional line, giving the impression of a “bright tragedy”.

The tragedy and hope duality is a device that maximizes Red Velvet’s unique personality. Starting with an overall dreamy and cool feeling, the song transforms dramatically into a bright and energetic vibe. Examining the verses, bridge, and chorus reveals a dramatic and novel atmosphere provided by the different feelings they convey.

The song builds up a powerful emotion by layering the development within its sophisticated rhythm and melody. Red Velvet’s signature style of delivering a “powerful emotion” through a sense of detail has once again become apparent in “Chill Kill”. The lyrics play a significant role, effectively complementing Red Velvet’s distinctive concept. The lyrics are creatively crafted, and various lines stood out.

Since their debut, Red Velvet has showcased the concepts of “red” (often categorized as bright and bubbly) and “velvet” (often categorized as dark and mysterious). In recent years, they have evolved with a unique blend of both, demonstrating a new and evolved image.

All in all, “Chill Kill” once again proves the perfect blend of red and velvet, highlighting the completeness of “Red Velvet” themselves.
