No YG Artists on Year-End Stages? Fans Criticize YG’s Promotion

The year-end (and start of the year) are often the most important and busiest period for K-pop artists, seeing that there are various award ceremonies and year-end music festivals.

These events often draw huge attention from both the public and K-pop fans, and are known to not only hype up fans of artists, but also attract new fans and public attention.

However, so far, there have been no YG artists on year-end stages of all 3 major broadcasting stations in Korean (SBS, KBS, and MBC). Additionally, except for one stage of TREASURE at MAMA and one stage of AKMU at AAA, YG artists completely disappeared from Korean award ceremonies.

Currently, YG is managing 3 active groups, including AKMU, TREASURE, and BABYMONSTER. Among them, AKMU achieved great digital successes, whilst TREASURE did well in terms of physical sales.

Meanwhile, BABYMONSTER just debuted, and year-end stages, alongside music festivals, would have been a great way to promote them for K-pop fans.

As a result, the absence of all 3 YG artists on almost all year-end stages has raised a lot of questions.

“What is YG even doing for their artists?”, some fans even have to ask, pointing fingers at YG for the company’s poor promotion strategy.

Comments such as “How come they did not plan any music show appearance for BABYMONSTER ?”, “TREASURE did extremely well at MAMA and could have drawn so many new fans from other stages, but YG just ignored these opportunities”, and “AKMU deserves better” can also be found.

On the other hand, while WINNER, another YG artist, is currently on break due to some members’ enlistment, fans of the group were also frustrated that YG ignored solo promotions for the active members.
