Netizens once again found similarities between NewJeans’s new concept photos and “Infinite Challenge”
On June 28th, an article titled “‘Infinite Challenge’ predicted NewJeans’s new song” was posted on an online community. The article’s author made a comparison by putting images of NewJeans’s “ASAP” teaser released on the 27th and screenshots of “Infinite Challenge” makeup for a calendar project.
Seeing the photos, netizens commented, “I want NewJeans to appear on ‘Hal Myung Soo’ again”, “Stop watching ‘Infinite Challenge’, Min Hee Jin”, “Was it a concept? Did they really copy ‘Infinite Challenge’?”, “I could imagine Park Myung Soo in the music video”, “‘Infinite Challenge’ is everywhere”, etc.
Since NewJeans’s debut in July last year, netizens have pointed out that the group’s choreographies & music video concepts of their songs, from “Attention”, “Hype Boy”, “Ditto” to “OMG”, resembled some scenes in “Infinite Challenge”.
“Infinite Challenge” producer MBC also made headlines as they uploaded on their Youtube channel “5-Minute Summary” a special video called “Infinite Challenge NewJeans” using memes created from such similarities.
Director Shin Woo Suk who made the music video for “Ditto” wrote on his Instagram Story, saying “I heard that someone accused NewJeans’s ‘Ditto’ music video I worked on this time of plagiarizing ‘Infinite Challenge’”, adding “I want to make it clear that it’s not plagiarism”.
Referring to the “Infinite Challenge NewJeans Universe” meme, he wittily said, “If there are scenes that you find familiar, I would appreciate it if you could understand that it’s just a similarity in genres.”
Meanwhile, NewJeans is scheduled to release their second EP album “Get Up” on July 21st. Prior to the album release, the girl group will pre-release the tracks “Super Shy” and “New Jeans” on the 7th. The EP album will include a total of six songs, including the two pre-release tracks, “ETA”, “Cool With You”, “ASAP” and “Get Up”.
