“Mr. Trot 2” came in first according to Gallup Korea’s survey, the trot craze continues to be sizzling hot!
“Mr. Trot 2” beat “The Glory” and topped the list of preferences in January.
According to Gallup Korea’s survey from January 17 to 19, TV Chosun’s trot audition program “Mr. Trot 2” topped the list with 8.5 percent of preference.
In the first half of 2019, “Miss Trot” became the center of the trot craze along with “Song Ga-in Syndrome,” and the sequel “Mr. Trot” ended in March at the first place in TV Chosun programs in January 2020 and the first place in terrestrial and non-terrestrial music entertainment.
After “Romantic Call Centre” starring Lim Young-woong and seven other trot men topped for eight consecutive months of the same year, “Miss Trot 2,” staying in 1st place from January to March 2021, joined the bandwagon and started the peak era of trot music.
The second-largest broadcast video program is the Netflix web drama “The Glory” (8.0%), a story centers on Moon Dong-eun’s revenge scheme on her high-school bullies. Part 1 is available for streaming since the end of last year and Part 2 is set to air in March.
The drama is penned by Kim Eun-sook who wrote “Descendants of the Sun,” “Goblin” and “Mr. Sunshine.” The drama is also Song Hye-kyo’s OTT debut. Considering that Netflix is a paid monthly video service targeting people in their 20s and 40s, the popularity and continued effect of the drama is expected to carry on as the second part is yet to be released.
In December last year, “Reborn Rich” starring Song Joong-ki and Lee Sung-min remained in sixth place even after the end, while MBN’s new music entertainment show “Burning Trotman” ranked ninth.
You Quiz on the Block” came in third, while “I Live Alone” and “The Love in Your Eyes” were tied for fourth. “Running Man” and “I Am a Natural Person” were both in seventh place. “My Little Old Boy” came in tenth place.
