SM Artists Facing Malicious Comments: Renjun Suspended Activities, BoA Hinted On Retirement

Many celebrities are complaining of excessive malicious comments, personal attacks, and invasion of privacy.

On April 20th, SM Entertainment (hereinafter referred to as SM), the agency of the group NCT DREAM, announced the suspension of its member Renjun’s activities. According to the announcement, Renjun recently visited the hospital due to his poor condition and anxiety. As a result of the test, he was suggested by medical staff to need sufficient stability and rest. In addition, SM also confirmed it would take legal actions against malicious slander, sexual harassment, spreading false information, insults and defamation against Renjun and its artists.

Previously, Renjun expressed his anger in his reply to a malicious comment about idols having it too easy. He wrote, “Don’t hide and type like a rat XX, but talk to my lawyer in person if you have anything to say. Contact this person and say what you want to say.” Releasing the conversation on a paid fan communication platform, Renjun said, “Idol is also a person. We feel tired. Have you tried living with this ridiculous schedule before judging. Of course, what you see should be pretty and beautiful.”

On the other hand, another SM artist, BoA, recently suffered from some malicious comments criticizing her lips in tvN’s drama “Marry My Husband.” As the situation became more serious recently, BoA eventually hinted at her retirement by writing on Instagram, “Can I retire now after my contract is over?” Eventually, her agency SM warned that it was actively responding to related malicious comments on online communities and social media platforms based overseas.
