Nam Goong Min’s “My Dearest” beats Kim Rae Won’s “The First Responders” again, solidifying No.1 position
“My Dearest”, starring Nam Goong Min, continues to secure its No.1 spot on the weekend drama chart.
According to Nielsen Korea on August 20th, episode 6 of MBC’s Fri-Sat drama “My Dearest”, which aired on the 19th, recorded a nationwide rating of 8.8%, soaring to 9.9% in real-time. It’s an increase of 0.4% from 8.4% in the previous episode (episode 5). The drama also achieved 3.3% in the 2049 chart, ranking 1st among all Saturday dramas.
On the other hand, SBS’s Fri-Sat drama “The First Responders” saw a 0.2% decline in rating as it recorded only 6.1% in episode 6.
In addition, the rating of JTBC’s Sat-Sun drama “Beyond Your Touch” also decreased from 5.805% in episode 2 to 5.522% in episode 3.
As a result, “My Dearest” maintained its No.1 position among weekend dramas, surpassing both “The First Responders” and “Beyond Your Touch”. In particular, “My Dearest” began to take the lead from episode 5 as its rating rose significantly.
“My Dearest” started off with 5.4% in the first broadcast then fell to 4.3% in episode 2. In the beginning, it lost to the rivals “The First Responders” and “Beyond Your Touch” and only ranked 3rd place among dramas of the same broadcasting slot after airing episode 4. However, “My Dearest” began to gain back momentum through word of mouth and overwhelmingly beat the other two series to claim the top spot with episode 5.
With its upward trend, “My Dearest” has solved the crisis of MBC’s Fri-Sat dramas, which had suffered a slump for a long time.
During the press conferences of “My Dearest” and “The First Responders”, Kim Rae Won expressed his feelings about the two dramas’ competition, saying “I didn’t know it. What’s the title (of that drama)?”, adding “Fighting!”. In response, Nam Goong Min jokingly responded, “‘My Dearest’ has two words, but he said he didn’t know it. How many words does his drama have?”, adding “Kim Rae Won is a great actor. I also enjoyed watching his previous work. It’s a competition of dramas in the same broadcasting time slot. I hope we have a friendly competition. But Rae Won, I’m also confident in my work.”
Nam Goong Min’s confidence has been proven to be reasonable. Set against the backdrop of a historical event, “My Dearest” boasts a solid storyline, the beautiful visual directing that makes the tragedy sadder as well as the impactful acting performances of the cast, including Im Sang Mi, Nam Goong Min and Ahn Eun Jin.
