Lia Kim Revealed “One Million” YouTube Channel Generates 0 Profit Despite Having 26 Million Subscribers

On December 28th, a new video was posted on the YouTube channel “Moneygraphy” under the title, “Can dance get its copyright recognition? A story of the dance industry with Lia Kim and Hyojin Choi.”

Lia Kim, who appeared as a guest, opened up about the dancer industry. Producer Kim Chang-sun asked Lia Kim, “I think the first thing that comes to mind is YouTube Content. One Million has 26.2 million subscribers. I’m curious about the channel’s revenue.

Unfortunately, there is no profit. All profits are returned to the music copyright holders,” Lia Kim said. “Music has a long history of obtaining licenses through copyright associations, so there is a system that can be settled on YouTube or other platforms. However, there is no such system for dance. We can’t even ask for profits from YouTube.’

Regarding why choreography is not recognized as copyrighted, Lia Kim said, “Music takes so many people’s sacrifices and efforts to be recognized historically. The Music Copyright Association was established in 1964 and reportedly achieved 100 billion won in sales in 2010. It took 46 years for them to do that,” she said. “It is only a first step forward for dance.

Dance should be recognized for its value in the absence of a physical presence, so we should first create an association,” she added.
