LGBT model and broadcaster found dead in agency’s office at age 27

An influential model and broadcaster, who is a vocal advocate of LGBT rights, has been pronounced dead. 

According to local media outlets such as the Japanese Daily News, Japanese model and broadcaster Ryuchell was found unconscious in the office of a talent agency at 5:35 PM on July 12th. They were pronounced dead shortly afterwards, and the police are currently investigating the exact circumstances, though the cause of death is suspected to be suicide.

Ryuchell thus passed away at the age of 27, only one day after posting a photo congratulating his ex-wife Peco (real name Okuhira Tetsuko) on their son’s fifth birthday.

On the other hand, Ryuchell married model and SNS personality Peco in 2016, but got a divorce in August 2022. In September of the same year, Ryuchell gained attention by coming out as a member of the LGBT community, stating he struggled with the concept of being the “ideal man” and “ideal husband”.

Ryuchell later became a vocal supporter of the LGBT community and highly advocated for LGBT rights in Japan. They also began to present as female and were seen holding the transgender flag, though never officially identifying as transgender. 

It has been reported that Peco and Ryuchell’s son is currently in Guam, USA. The media reported that Peco has not made any mention of Ryuchell’s death yet.
