Lee Young Ji expresses anger regarding recent knife attacks in Korea, “It’s not cool at all, leave it at home to cut cucumbers”

Rapper Lee Young Ji confessed her frustration regarding the recent stabbing rampage and threatening posts in Korea.

On August 6th, Lee Young Ji posted on her SNS account, saying “Due to the stabbing incidents here and there, I was very worried when I couldn’t contact my friend for more than 7-8 hours. It’s so annoying. Using knives that way is not cool at all. Just leave it at home to cut cucumbers”, expressing her anger.

Following the stabbing incident at Sillim Station on July 21st, another stabbing case occurred in Seohyeon-dong, Bundang-gu, Seongnam-si, Gyeonggi-do on August 3rd. After crashing into vehicles on the street, the suspect Choi (22 years old) wielded a knife against citizens on the 1st and 2nd floors of the nearby AK Plaza department store. The car crash killed one person and injured 4 people. 9 people were injured in the stabbing attack.

Since then, notices of stabbing plans have spread widely online. According to the National Police Agency, a total of 46 people who had written murder-threatening posts have been arrested by noon on the 6th. Among them, many are minors and most of them said they were just “joking”. In particular, the person who wrote the notice of a stabbing at Seomyeon Station in Busan was a Navy Private, so the police handed over him to the military police.

Amid growing anxiety among citizens due to the increasing stabbing incidents and threatening posts, Lee Young Ji’s straightforward remarks helped relieve netizens’ concerns somehow.

In response to Lee Young Ji’s post, fans commented, “She’s really the No.1 hip-hop artist in Korea”, “As expected, she’s our cultural president”, etc.

Meanwhile, Lee Young Ji donated 100 million won to neighbors suffering from flood damage. 75 million won of the donation derived from profits of her Youtube content “Nothing Much Prepared” merchandise sales.
