Lee Gi Kwang Criticized For Poor Voice And Eye Acting Skills In “Marry My Husband”

Marry My Husband” almost did not receive any negative reviews during the first half of its broadcast. But now, after episodes 9 and 10 were released, the drama is facing many negative comments from the audience due to supporting actor Lee Gi Kwang.

Marry My Husband Lee Gi Kwang

Recently on X (formerly Twitter), a video was posted with the title: “People of Gyeongsang-do say: Stop”. The video shows Gi Kwang’s character calling and congratulating the female lead because he thinks she is getting married. Currently, this video has attracted more than 3 million views and a series of comments expressing discomfort from Korean audiences, due to Lee Ki Kwang’s voice acting.

The reason why the people of Gyeongsang-do province are mentioned in the title is because in the drama, Lee Gi Kwang’s character speaks the Gyeongsang dialect. However, he was completely unable to show off his Gyeongsang voice. Instead, he made the audience uncomfortable by not being able to impersonate the dialect, and his voice therefore became harder to hear. Many comments said that Lee Gi Kwang was not really serious about his role and did not practice carefully before filming. Some viewers commented that it would be better for him to just use his real voice instead of trying to change it but could not do it right.

In fact, the voice is not the only problem Lee Gi Kwang faces. His facial expressions also made some the audience uncomfortable. Many comments pointed out that Lee Gi Kwang rolled his eyes too much, especially in scenes with female lead Park Min Young. It seems like Lee Gi Kwang is trying to pull off the image of a naive silly guy just like his character in the original webtoon, but rolling his eyes a lot and not having flexible expression accidentally exposed his poor acting skills.
