At the showcase, reporters raised questions about the bullying controversy surrounding member Kim Garam, but the group leader, Kim Chaewon, stepped up to answer, saying: “We are currently discussing this matter with the company and we are responding according to our procedures. Therefore, we will remain cautious when speaking directly about this matter here. In the future, we will have an opportunity to discuss this with you in more detail.”

Kim Garam then took the microphone and said: “I hope you understand that it is difficult for us to say anything at the moment. I will show you my hard work as a member of LE SSERAFIM.”

On March 6th, prior to LE SSERAFIM’s debut, member Kim Garam found herself embroiled in school violence allegations. The scandal started with a netizen who claimed to be Garam’s classmate telling the internet that Kim Garam was a resident bully who also smoked and drank alcohol, which was then followed by many other similar posts. Controversial photos which are said to be Kim Garam during her school days also added to the fire.

Against this scandal, the company only released a statement that completely refuted all allegations, saying: “The recent allegations are edited in a malicious manner to slander Kim Garam… and contrary to the claims of some, it was confirmed through a third-party statement that she was a victim of school bullying, including malicious rumors and cyberbullying, when she was in middle school”.
