Actress Kim Sae Ron was taken to court for causing an accident while drunk driving in Gangnam.
According to legal circles on December 19th, the Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office indicted Kim Sae Ron without detention on December 16th on charges of violating the Road Traffic Act (drunk driving and post-accident negligence).
The passenger in their 20s, who was in Kim’s car at the time of the incident, was also put on trial without detention on charges of aiding and abetting drunk driving.
Kim Sae Ron caused an accident, such as hitting the guardrail and street trees several times, on May 18th at around 8 a.m. when driving under the influence of alcohol near Cheongdam-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul. She reportedly tried to flee away from the accident scene.
Kim Sae Ron’s car collided with a transformer, causing an electricity cut-off in 57 places, including nearby stores, for three hours.
Due to the accident, nearby areas, such as Sinsa-dong and Apgujeong-dong, were blacked out and traffic lights were also paralyzed, causing inconvenience to merchants, residents, and citizens.
Kim Sae Ron was caught by the police who were dispatched to the scene after receiving a report that a car was staggering on the road. The actress’s sobriety test came out with a positive result. As Kim Sae Ron refused to take the blood alcohol concentration check, the police let her go home after taking a blood test.
According to Kim Sae Ron’s blood collection test, her blood alcohol concentration was more than 0.2%, which exceeded the 0.08% level for license revocation.
The police sent Kim Sae Ron to the prosecution on June 28th, and the prosecution decided to dispose of her case after 6 months.
Kim Sae Ron made her debut as a magazine cover model in 2001 and began her career as a child actress through the movie “A Brand New Life” in 2002. She later appeared in various famous works, such as movies “The Man from Nowhere”, “The Neighbor”, “Barbie”, dramas “The Queen’s Classroom”, “Secret Healer”, but has stopped her acting activities since the accident.
