“Revenant” team with writer Kim Eun Hee and trustworthy actors Kim Tae Ri & Oh Jung Se showed confidence, “30% for first week’s rating?”

“Revenant” director and main cast introduced the drama prior to its first broadcast.

On June 23rd, the press conference for SBS’s new Fri-Sat drama “Revenant” was held at the SBS building in Mokdong, Seoul. Director Lee Jung Rim and the cast, including Kim Tae Ri, Oh Jung Se and Hong Kyung, attended the event.

“Revenant” tells about San Young (Kim Tae Ri), a woman who gets possessed by a devil, and folklore professor Yeom Hae Sang (Oh Jung Se), who can see the devil, digging into mysterious deaths. Written by “genre master” Kim Eun Hee, who created the stories of “Sign”, “Phantom”, “Signal”, “Kingdom”, etc., and directed by “VIP” PD Lee Jung Rim, the drama raised high expectations from the production stage.

Introducing the Korean-style occult material of “Revenant”, director Lee explained, “Unlike Western occult, there is no exorcism. The story is based on folklore, folk beliefs, legends, and myths that our ancestors have believed in since a long time ago”. When asked about the level of horror, he said, “I tried to make the drama with a maximum level of 15+. After getting accustomed to the horror during the filming process, I directed more provocative scenes. It’s scary but interesting so I hope you can watch until the end.”

Kim Tae Ri took on the role of Goo San Young, a public prosecutor who works part-time during the day and prepares for the 9th-grade civil service exam at night. Regarding her feelings when receiving the script, the actress said, “I was amazed by the story when hearing it from the writer for the first time. I believed that there would be endless stories to tell when it comes to folklore and became curious about how the drama would develop”, adding, “It was a well-written story and I felt great being able to act out such an excellent script”.

Revealing that “Revenant” is her first time challenging a genre drama, Kim Tae Ri shared, “The most difficult thing was playing a double role”, adding “In order to act two roles at once, I tried to focus on the situation when I portrayed each character, and asked myself various question to understand the characters more.”

Oh Jung Se, who appears as folklore professor Yeom Hae Sang, who has the ability to hear and see spirits and gods, also shared his first impression of the story. The actor said, “Reading the script from the perspective of Hae Sang, the process of finding the devil felt like walking in the fog, and when the fog disappeared, the space and props that appeared clearly became elements for a thrilling narrative.”

When asked about the teamwork of the three main actors, Kim Tae Ri said, “It was great”. Oh Jung Se confessed, “I received lots of help”, while Hong Kyung thanked the others, saying “I relied on them a lot”.

Kim Tae Ri also revealed a behind-the-scenes story about the filming, saying “There are many closed spaces and night shoots, so whenever a big suddenly appeared, the filming site became chaotic. Oh Jung Se is scared of bugs the most, but he kept on playing pranks.”

When asked about the rating result that she wanted “Revenant” to achieve, Kim Tae Ri said, “20% for episodes 1 and 2 altogether”. Oh Jung Se added, “15% for episode 1 and 15% for episode 2, then it would be 30%”.

Lastly, “Revenant” director Lee confidently said, “The fact that it was written by Kim Eun Hee and starred these three actors is enough to make viewers look forward to the drama.”

“Revenant” will premiere at 10 p.m. on June 23rd.
