Actor Kang Dong-won expressed satisfaction with the public’s attention to his appearance
On the morning of Sep 21st, Kang Dong-won conducted an interview with Wikitree at a cafe in Samcheong-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul ahead of the release of the movie “Dr. Cheon and Lost Talisman”.
“Dr. Cheon and Lost Talisman” depicts fake exorcist Dr. Cheon (Kang Dong-won) who can’t see ghosts but solves the case with ghost-like insight, and is commissioned for a powerful possession case. It is based on the Naver webtoon “Possessed”.
Kang Dong-won said with a smile, “I now feel my age and experience. I felt a more mature and story-filled vibe. As I get older, I think I’ll be able to play characters that suit my age, and roles I haven’t tried before. That’s a good thing. I can now even play the role of a real middle-aged man.”
He made everyone laugh by adding, “The downside is that I can’t play younger characters. I wonder if I can film flashback scenes with the help of CG.”
Kang Dong-won has been receiving consistent love since his debut due to his small face and distinctive features. It is said that he emits a radiant aura in scenes featuring him, and there is also a misunderstanding (?) that he alone wears different clothes even when wearing the same outfit as other actors.
To such reactions, he said honestly, “It’s nice. It’s better than being called ugly. It’s good to hear compliments. Of course, the best thing to hear is that I act well.“
When asked “Is there any pressure like ‘My acting has to surpass my appearance’?“, he replied, “There’s no such thing. Whenever the topic of appearance comes up, I think, ‘I just need to do better!’“
Meanwhile, the movie “Dr. Cheon and Lost Talisman” will be released on Sep 27th.
