“K-pop Visual Legend” Krystal Jung: Debuts At 14, Stops Idol Activities At 22 & Hints At Music Comeback After 10 Years

Having been focused on acting after f(x)’s disbandment, Krystal now shows signs of planning a comeback in the music industry

In 2009, SM caused a stir when they introduced f(x) to the music industry. As soon as their debut, f(x) quickly proved themselves as a unique group with both talents and visuals. During their heyday, the girl group digested all kinds of complicated concepts and received compliments for their musicality. In particular, the two youngest members Sulli and Krystal Jung also became visual icons of the second generation. It’s been a long time since f(x) disbanded, but many K-pop fans still mention Krystal in various discussions.

F(x) is no longer together anymore, even though theoretically they are still one group.

Born in 1994, Krystal was only 14 years old when she debuted with f(x). Owning a goddess visual, Krystal gained keen attention right after being introduced to the public. One of the charms of the female idol is her rare elegant, sophisticated, and fancy appearance. During the time she was active under SM, Krystal was nicknamed “K-pop muse” and creative director Min Hee-jin’s favorite model.

In fact, Krystal is not only pretty but also talented. Known as the younger sister of Girls’ Generation’s vocalist Jessica, Krystal also has a beautiful voice. With her sweet voice, perfect dancing skills and overwhelming stage presence, Krystal was a born idol and one of K-pop’s second-generation all-rounders.

Despite having all the star qualities, Krystal couldn’t become more famous due to the poor management of SM Entertainment. f(x) was indeed a talented but unlucky girl group. Following Sulli’s controversies in 2014, f(x) made a comeback once with “4 Walls” as a four-member group then went on a long hiatus until the members’ contracts expired. Throughout the 4 years from 2015 to 2019 without schedules, f(x) members decided to walk separate ways.

The biggest regret was that Krystal decided to withdraw from the music industry. Her last promotion as a singer was “4 Walls” and she was only 22 years old at that time. 9 years have passed but she has never appeared on the stage again. Instead of singing, Krystal focuses on acting and does activities in other areas.

Knowing Krystal is still doing well, many fans are still longing for “idol Krystal”. In topics discussing K-pop legends, Krystal has always been mentioned as one of the idols with the best stage presence.

Earlier this year, Krystal surprised fans when she signed with BANA Entertainment and showed signs of returning to the music industry. In particular, she released a cover of “I’m Coming Back” and changed her music profile.

Many speculated that Krystal is planning for a solo promotion. Krystal’s current company BABAA was founded by Kim Ki-hyun, who used to work in SM’s global talent recruiting team and is very close to Min Hee-jin. In addition, 250 and FRNK, 2 out of 3 main producers of NewJeans, are managed by BANA.

Therefore, fans have high expectations for Krystal to release new songs produced by that producing team with a concept created by Min Hee-jin.
