JYP musicians share interesting stories about composing songs for idols

2 young JYP’s musicians have just had honest and interesting sharing about composing songs for idols in an interview on a YouTube channel.

JYP Entertainment owns many popular groups to the public and is quite famous in the Kpop fan community such as TWICE, ITZY, Stray Kids, DAY6, 2PMPark Jinyoung and his artists are involved in a lot of composing. However, JYP still has a group of musicians to help them do this.

2 of JYP’s musicians KOBEE and Holy. M recently had an interview with a YouTube channel called AYO and discussed a number of topics such as how to become a musician, and how to write JYP’s iconic songs. They not only composed for JYP’s artists (‘Not Shy’ of ITZY) but also for other groups like ‘In My Arms’ (ONEUS), ‘With You’ (TO1)…

One of the questions the two musicians received was “How does it feel to be working with the members of ITZY?“. As many expected, they all felt quite nervous when meeting the girls. It is not only a challenge but also an opportunity for the two boys to complete their work.

Holy. M said, “I’ve really never seen so many celebrities. So I was like, ‘Where is this? Who am I?'”.

KOBEE shared, “This is my first time directing such a large group, so I was really nervous. But when I asked about ITZY, they answered very well. So I was able to record in the atmosphere. relaxed and fun atmosphere”.

Another popular group is Stray Kids who received a lot of attention thanks to 3RACHA’s (Bang Chan, Changbin and Han) composing skills. Therefore, the next question that the two JYP musicians received was “What did the musicians do when the idols are good at composing and writing lyrics?”.

KOBEE commented: “When working on the group’s new mixtape ‘OH’, we really didn’t need to do too much because they understood the song well and gave many opinions. We only shared ideas for the parts that we think need to be more difficult. We worked directly with the team, brainstorming ideas while composing and completing the song.”

2 JYP musicians said that they still have to come up with ideas while composing while working with artists who can compose and write lyrics.

When asked if they read the comments on their song, they instantly replied that they do and that they do it every day. When they read those comments, they typically feel at ease. But they also frequently receive negative comments, including criticism of the music and their ability to compose.

KOBEE confessed, “As soon as a song came out, I kept reloading the website to read the comments.”

I often feel proud when I read comments,” Holy.M admitted honestly, “but there are also many indirect criticisms aimed at the songs, so we attempted to take it with humility and keep making beautiful music.”

When asked how he gets his inspiration for music, KOBEE suggested reading books and viewing movies, but neither he nor his colleagues did so. Instead, random situations like driving or playing the piano inspire their compositions.

Talking about a weird source of inspiration  KOBEE recalled: “I couldn’t think of a melody while working on ITZY’s KIDDING ME, so I was planning to go to the bathroom quickly and then leave.” He added, “However, the idea came above the toilet unexpectedly because a good melody sprang into my head.”
