Ji Chang-wook & Shin Hye-sun’s “Welcome to Samdal-ri” Surpasses Rating Goal 5% In First Episode
The drama “Welcome to Samdal-ri” achieved the rating target set by its cast during the press conference
Episode 1 of JTBC’s Sat-Sun drama “Welcome to Samdal-ri”, starring Ji Chang-wook and Shin Hye-sun, was aired on December 2nd. The drama made a good start by recording a nationwide rating of 5.2% and 5.3% in the Seoul area.
In the meantime, MBC’s Fri-Sat drama “The Story of Park’s Marriage Contract” aired on the same and achieved a rating of 6.4%. SBS’s Fri-Sat drama “My Demon” recorded an average viewership of 4.0%. As such, the healing romcom “Welcome to Samdal-ri” successfully beat “My Demon” in terms of rating from its first broadcast.
At the press conference for “Welcome to Samdal-ri” on December 1st, Ji Chang-wook said, “I’m feeling a little bit awkward because it’s been a long time since I made my last rating promise”, adding “I hope many people enjoy the drama. I want it to start warmly with a 5% rating”. Shin Hye-sun also predicted the first broadcast rating to record 5%. She added, “If the drama reaches 20%, I will make eye contact with 200 people at Jeju Airport duty-free store”.
As “Welcome to Samdal-ri” started airing, it added tension to the rating competition. After “My Dearest” ended, “The Story of Park’s Marriage Contract” took over the throne as the highest-rating weekend drama currently.
Unlike “The Story of Park’s Marriage Contract” and “My Demon”, which are fantasy romance dramas about contract marriages, “Welcome to Samdal-ri” stands out as a comfortable family romcom that delivers healing and comfort to viewers with stories that are likely to happen in real life.
In the first episode, photographer Jo Sam-dal (Shin Hye-sun) broke up with her boyfriend because he cheated on her. An assistant, who had an affair with Sam-dal’s boyfriend, damaged Sam-dal’s image by reporting to the media that she was the victim of Sam-dal’s power abuse and verbal violence. Suffering unfairness, Sam-dal decided to return to her hometown.
Attention is focused on whether “Welcome to Samdal-ri” will increase in the next episodes with the power of the healing drama genre.
