Contrary to initial promotion, Jennie’s role is changed dramatically to an insignificant character.

Recently, RollingStone reported that Jennie’s screentime is reduced to 3 to 4 lines per episodes due to the personnel changes (the original director Amy Seimetz left the project and was replaced by Sam Levinson). As it turns out, contrary to the initial promise of a role that significantly contributes to the story, Jennie’s role “has barely any air time and [only] an inconsequential story arc.”

According to a production source, the rapper’s main task was to “sit there and look pretty.” Interestingly, Sam Levinson still applauded Jennie for her diligence and enthusiasm on the set.

In the HBO’s production “The Idol,” Jennie will transform into Angel, a mysterious and potentially antagonistic character in the storyline. While the previous updates were optimistic for Jennie’s acting debut, the newly released information makes future outcomes less promising as it was expected.

In response, netizens were unhappy with the final product, saying that the production crew should have been more upfront from the beginning.

“The Idol” tells the story of Jocelyn (Lily-Rose Depp), a rising star witnessing her own career crashing down after a nervous breakdown that causes the last tour of to be cancelled. Motivated to revive her career, Jocelyn strives to reclaim her title as the sexiest pop star in the US. She falls into a complicated relationship with Tedros (The Weeknd), a self-help guru and head of a contemporary cult.
