IVE, Red Velvet, and More: Who Will Win the Girl Group Comeback Battle in the Second Half of 2023?

The K-pop battle in the second half of this year is set to be intense with girl group comebacks

On October 11th, former NMIXX member Jinni and tripleS’ subunit EVOLution, are both making their debuts and open the curtain on the comeback battle.

Jinni, who abruptly left NMIXX last year due to personal reasons, has announced her solo debut. Jinni’s agency, UAP, dropped the promotional timetable poster for her first album with the line, “An Iron Hand in a Velvet Glove,” on September 15th.

Through this solo debut, Jinni plans to showcase her unique charm and captivating vocal tones, expressing her determination for her first solo activities since leaving NMIXX.

tripleS has introduced their new subunit, EVOLution. On the 18th, tripleS EVOLution recently revealed concept photos chosen directly by the fans, raising expectations.

Wheein Mamamoo Dalso Chuu

Moving forward, MAMAMOO’s Wheein and former LOONA member Chuu have confirmed their solo comebacks on October 12th and 18th.

MAMAMOO’s Wheein personally announced her solo comeback on KBS Cool FM’s “Let’s Raise the Volume,” where she is currently serving as a special DJ. Her agency has teased Wheein’s expanded musical spectrum and charming voice, asking for lots of anticipation and love.

Former LOONA member Chuu, who previously experienced conflicts over an exclusive contract with her agency, confirmed her solo comeback on October 18th. The first teaser image released shows a close-up of one of Chuu’s eyes, creating curiosity about her solo album. Fans’ expectations are rising as they anticipate Chuu’s new transformation through which she shows a different side from what fans have seen before.

On October 13th, the leading 4th gen girl group IVE will return to the music scene.

IVE, known for their mega hits with every album release, is making a comeback with triple title tracks. IVE has revealed three coming soon posters, along with the phrase “I’VE MINE.” Including “Either Way” on September 25th, “Off the Record” on October 6th, and the final title track, “Baddie,” on October 13th, IVE will release another highly-anticipated EP. 

As one of most popular 4th gen groups, there is growing curiosity about whether IVE can continue their streak of five consecutive hits.

In November, Red Velvet will be joining the girl group comeback battle. Red Velvet is making a comeback with a full album for the first time in six years since the release of their second full album, “Perfect Velvet,” in November 2017. 

Debuting in 2014, Red Velvet has built a solid fan base with numerous hit songs like “Red Flavor,” “Russian Roulette,” “Peek-A-Boo,” and “Psycho.” All eyes are on this upcoming full album comeback as fans eagerly anticipate Red Velvet’s return.
