“Hometown Cha Cha Cha” is one of the best romantic comedy dramas this autumn. It achieved both high ratings as well as favorable reviews from viewers.
On Oct 17th, tvN’s Saturday-Sunday drama “Hometown Cha Cha Cha” ended on a happy note with the marriage of dentist Yoon Hye-won (played by Shin Min-ah) and “Korean MacGyver” Hong Doo-sik (played by Kim Seon-ho). The ratings for the last episode soared to an average of 12.7% and a peak of 13.7% nationwide, breaking its own record. It maintained the number one spot among its competitors that aired at the same time in Korea.
Shin Min-ah had the right choice to return to the small screen with “Hometown Cha Cha Cha”. After receiving the laurel wreath of “romantic comedy queen”, she prepared a lot to walk on the flowery path. The cheerful and lively Yoon Hye-won role was so perfect for Shin Min-ah that she captivated viewers with her outstanding acting skills and natural charms.
At that point, interview requests and guest offers were pouring in for Shin Min-ah. In the midst of relieving her tired mind and body from the long shoot and preparing for congratulatory schedules, the actress was struck by lightning. It is the so-called “Kim Seon-ho Incident”. Kim Seon-ho, a party involved in the one-sided revelation, collapsed after receiving a direct hit. However, the production crew and the cast of “Hometown Cha Cha Cha” were also swept away by the tsunami.
For Shin Min-ah, “Hometown Cha Cha Cha” was an important turning point, so it was even more disappointing. In a pre-broadcast press conference, Shin Min-ah revealed her intention, “I wanted to do a soft yet funny romantic comedy.” In the end, “Hometown Cha Cha Cha” was a huge success and was recognized for its high ratings.
In fact, the “Kim Seon-ho Incident” has now turned into a situation where it is difficult to know what is true. Some public opinion’s unilateral witch hunt against Kim Seon-ho is now at a level that has disappeared. Kim Seon-ho revived his reputation to the point where he was asked to appear in an advertisement, but he is still keeping a low profile.
The same goes for Shin Min-ah. The nostalgia of “Hometown Cha Cha Cha” was cherished in her heart and she is already filming her next project. It may be a bit of an exaggeration, but the thought that Shin Min-ah is a secondary victim of this incident is spinning around the reporter’s head.
