On August 5th, the media reported that actress Hwang Jung-eum and basketball player Kim Jong-gyu broke up after two weeks of dating publicly. The two, who had been taking care of each other carefully, felt pressured after publicizing their relationship so they decided to remain good sister and brother. Hwang Jung-eum’s agency Y1 Entertainment also acknowledged the two’s breakup.
Earlier on April 22nd, when the rumor of Hwang Jung-eum and Kim Jong-gyu dating broke out, the actress’s agency confirmed it, saying “It is true that she developed good feelings for him, but she is still getting to know him cautiously”.
Hwang Jung-eum married former professional golfer Lee Young-don in 2020 and gave birth to her first son in the following year. In February, she filed a lawsuit to divorce from her husband. Five months after the divorce announcement, the actress admitted to dating Kim Jong-gyu but eventually broke up in two weeks due to the burden of public attention.
The risk of private life being exposed to the public also caused Han So-hee and Ryu Jun-yeol as well as aespa’s Karina and Lee Jae-wook to part ways.
Han So-hee confirmed her romance with Ryu Jun-yeol on March 16th. However, rumors of a transit love arose after Ryu Jun-yeol’s ex-girlfriend Hyeri made a meaningful post on SNS. As the controversy intensified, both Hyeri and Han So-hee released apologies.
Later, Han So-hee made a post on her blog suggesting her breakup with Ryu Jun-yeol. Her agency also quickly confirmed the end of the two romance in an official statement. They said, “Both of them felt their bigger roles as actors”, adding “The actress promised to not consume emotions from personal matters anymore”.

However, their relationship attracted too much interest that it even resulted in criticism from fans. In response to the dating news, Karina’s fans expressed disappointment and anger by sending protest trucks to SM building.
As a result, Karina released a handwritten letter on her SNS account to apologize to fans and the two announced their breakup in April. Lee Jae-wook’s agency said, “They decided to focus on the project he is filming. The two will support each other as good colleagues”. Karina’s side also confirmed, “It is true that Karina and Lee Jae-wook have broken up”.
