“Extreme Job” director Lee Byeong Heon once again proved his unique comedy directing style as “Dream” topped box office chart

The new film “Dream” by director Lee Byeong Heon, who attracted 16.26 million viewers with “Extreme Job”, topped the box office chart.

Going through ups and downs, including the suspension of filming due to the Covid-19 pandemic, “Dream” has finally been released in theaters. With its touching story and director Lee Byeong Heon’s unique comedy directing, the movie is arousing keen interest from the public.

According to the Korean Film Council on April 27th, “Dream” achieved 93,420 admissions on its premiere day (April 26th) and topped the daily box office ranking. Its cumulative number of viewers has surpassed 101,280 million. “Super Mario Bros. Movie”, which was predicted to be a hit as it ranked No.1 in ticket reservations, placed second on the box office chart with 89,692 million viewers.

This is the first time in 50 days since “The Devil’s Deal” by director Lee Won Tae that a Korean film has taken the top spot on the box office chart again.

“Dream” tells about conceptless former football player Hong Dae (Park Seo Joon) and passionless PD So Min (IU) challenging impossible dreams with the national team of homeless people.

Audiences who watched “Dream” at CGV poured compliments, such as “Since the movie is based on a true story, I got emotional several times while watching it. It is not only touching but also funny”, “I laughed so hard because of the funny scenes that my tears came out”, etc.

Director Lee Byeong Heon is called “master of comedy lines”. The comical remarks and dialogues of the five detectives in “Extreme Job” were so entertaining that they left a lasting impression on movie fans. In “Dream”, Lee Byeong Heon continued to show his talents and drew laughter with humorous conversations among its numerous cast, including Park Seo Joon and IU.

While “Extreme Job” provides a satisfying ending with pleasant action scenes, “Dream” delivers the message of hope and encouragement through the story of homeless people doing their best to score a goal in the Homeless World Cup.

Although IU has played many sad and complicated characters in dramas, such as “My Mister”, she still naturally transformed into the bright and cheerful PD So Min. Park Seo Joon received favorable reviews for his funny bickering moments with IU and football skills, which were so excellent that many people thought it was created using CG effects.

Attention is focused on how successful “Dream”, which is revitalizing the sluggish performance of the film industry, will be in terms of box office achievements.
