Mackiss Company, a liquor company in Daejeon and Chungcheong regions, announced on Sep 4th that it had selected (G)I-DLE Miyeon as the model for “Sunyang Soju”, Korea’s low-calorie, low-ABV soju.
An official from Mackiss Company said, “We selected Miyeon as the model because her clean image, unrivaled tone and versatile charm fit the product characteristics of Sunyang.”
Miyeon is the group’s main vocalist. She is loved by the public for not only her main job “music” but also for her versatile charm in acting, hosting and entertainment shows.
Mackiss Company plans to approach consumers through various marketing activities, starting with the release of a TV advertisement featuring Miyeon this month.
“Sunyang Soju” was launched last February to commemorate Mackiss Company’s 50th anniversary with a low ABV (14.9%) and low calories (298kcal).
It differentiates itself from existing products by incorporating sensuous design elements such as short and round bottle shape.
By reusing the old company name and product name as well as applying the past’s “Crown Cap”, which can be enjoyed by opening the bottle cap like beer, it brought back memories to middle-aged and older drinkers.
Mackiss Company’s Head of Marketing Jo Hyun Jun said, “The product features the clean taste of soju despite having the lowest ABV and lowest calories among soju produced in Korea. We selected Miyeon because the elegant bottle design and product characteristics match her image. Together with Miyeon, we’ll actively promote Sunyang’s charm to consumers.”
