From “Queen of the Mask” to “The Glory,” five evil rich cliques of K-drama

Rich kid friend groups are presented in a different light in these five dramas.

Queen of the Mask

With the return of top-tier actresses including Kim Sun Ah, Oh Yoon Ah, Shin Eun Jung, and Yoo Sun, “Queen of the Mask” is four old friends’ intense battles to expose one another and uncover a buried truth for roughly a decade. While those three continue living their life with their past behind them and building a new life, the one who took the blame has to flee to the U.S. and only comes back 10 years later to uncover the truth.

The Penthouse

The Penthouse” became a sensation the moment it premiered. The series exposes rich people’s married life, an endless drive for fame and reputation, and the hidden sides behind their glamorous life. Apart from the compelling dramas, “The Penthouse” also gathered massive attention to the friendship of Shim Soo Ryeon (Lee Ji Ah), Cheon Seo Jin (Kim So Yeon), and Oh Yoon Hee (Eugene).

The trio is willing to forsake their humanity and morality to fulfill their darkest desires. Filled to the brim with suspense and unexpected plot twists, audiences are left on the edge of their seats, wondering what will come.

Nonetheless, the friendship between Je Ni and Ro Na shone through among the selfish, wealth-craving individuals. Their relationship is short-lived, yet it is one of the few good memories that the two can cling to.

SKY Castle

SKY Castle” garnered various success during its airing. It is one of the few critically acclaimed dramas well-received among the public.

The Glory

The Glory” was a buzzworthy sensation on the small screen thanks to a high-quality script and impeccable performances of the cast. The rich clique in the drama includes Park Yeon Jin (Lim Ji Yeon), Jeon Jae Jun (Park Sung Hoon), Lee Sa Ra (Kim Hieora), and Choi Hye Jeong (Cha Joo Young). They are a group of high-school bullies who torture Moon Dong Eun (Song Hye Kyo), only to receive their punishment years later.

Despite having stayed with each other for decades, the foursome rarely shows their true feelings or bond with one another over something. They carefully manipulate the relationship to their advantage and are ready to sell one another out if the situation turns difficult.

Return

“Return” was one of the most buzzing mystery-thriller dramas of 2018. The drama gathers top-tier actors such as Go Hyun Jung, Lee Jin Wook, Shin Sung Rok, and many more.

Four people – Kang In Ho (Park Ki Woong), Oh Tae Seok (Shin Sung Rok), Kim Hak Beom (Bong Tae Gyu), and Seo Joon Hee (Yoon Jong Hoon) – form a group of friends who have known each other since they were kids.  They were born into wealthy families and harbor a deep dark secret born out of corruption. The characters in the series are never who they appear to be, leaving each of them a potential suspect. “Return” lays bare the hidden sides of the life of the upper class, the immense power of wealth, and a severely distorted concept of friendship.
