Former NU’EST’s Minhyun Talks His Trainee Days: Auditioned in Hallway, Required to Drink 1.2 Liter of Milk Every Day

On BTS Suga’s “Suchwita,” Minhyun opened up about his journey as a trainee and the hurdles he faced on the path to debut.

Minhyun, a Busan native, recounted how he was scouted in front of his school, sharing that Pledis Entertainment wasn’t the powerhouse it is today during that time. In an era fraught with street casting scams, Minhyun hesitated, but the company assured him of their genuine intentions: “We’re forming a male music group with 5 members, 3 of whom are already chosen and in training. If you’re interested, come to the hotel near Busan Station.

Taking the plunge, Minhyun auditioned in a hotel hallway. After a few days, he re-auditioned in Seoul and passed. This marked a pivotal moment in his journey from a hopeful teenager to an idol.

While the audition process itself was challenging, Minhyun revealed that his trainee days held even tougher trials. The most daunting of these was the requirement to consume a staggering 1.2 liters of milk per day.

This might sound like an unconventional hardship for a trainee, but it was a part of Minhyun’s commitment to growing taller, a common aspiration among young trainees. The effort to gulp down milk became surpassed even the rigor of his training sessions.

As Minhyun put it, “Drinking milk was tougher than practice itself. I had to finish the milk before I could be dismissed.”
