Fans Got Angry Over Chinese Airport Staff Putting Finger Inside Fubao’s Cage

Korean and Chinese fans are frustrated at the scene of Chengdu Airport staff attempting to touch Fubao with their finger

Leaving Korea accompanied by zookeeper Kang Chul-won earlier on April 3rd, Fubao arrived safely at Chengdu Airport at 8 p.m. on the same day.

The disinfection process upon Fubao’s arrival at the airport was aired live to the public. Accordingly, Fubao did not move as if she was still sleeping after a long trip.

Watching the broadcast, many people noticed that Chinese officials lifted the cover of Fubao’s cage then attempted to touch the panda while it was sleeping with their fingers through the holes in the cage. In addition, flashes from reporters also caused Fubao to look nervous and scared because of the sudden environmental changes. The scenes spread widely on the Internet and drew criticism from Fubao fans in Korea and China.

Korean netizens commented, “Kang Bao and Song Bao (the zookeepers) raised Fubao so carefully but…”, “Fubao received training for quarantine in Korea and did a great job. It was so rude to touch her with fingers like that”, “She looks so nervous due to the flashes”, “Even when she was in Korea, they already warned that Fubao is sensitive to noise”, etc.

Chinese netizens who love Fubao also angrily reacted, “Who put their finger in the cage?”, “Someone was trying to touch Fubao with their bare hands?”, “You guys should take care of Fubao better”, etc.
