DKZ Kyoungyoon eventually leaves the group following JMS controversy, “He will also enlist within this year”
Five months after the JMS religion controversy, DKZ member Kyoungyoon announced his withdrawal from the group.
On August 7th, DKZ’s agency Dongyo Entertainment made a post on the group’s official fancafe with the title “Notice on member Kyoungyoon’s current situation and future activities”.
The agency said, “Kyoungyoon has suspended his activities since April due to health reasons to focus on treatment. After Kyoungyoon’s condition recovered, we had some in-depth discussions regarding his future activities”.
Accordingly, Kyoungyoon will wrap up his activities with DKZ and enlist within this year to fulfill his military service. DKZ’s side continued, “Kyoungyoon feels a great sense of responsibility for causing concerns to the members and fans. We will continue providing generous support so that Kyoungyoon could stand in front of his fans in a healthy condition.”
Later, Kyoungyoon also released a handwritten letter to comfort fans. He cautiously said, “I’m really sorry to the fans who must have been very shocked and disappointed by what happened because of me. I also want to thank the fans who worried about me”.
Kyoungyoon continued, “After much consideration over the past five months, I believe that stepping down as DKZ Kyoungyoon is the best decision for all the people I love. I hope fans can understand my choice”, announcing his departure from DKZ. He added, “I don’t want to regret my choice and I’m still rooting for the members. I sincerely appreciate your love and support for DKZ Kyoungyoon”.
Earlier, Kyoungyoon was suspected of being a ‘JMS believer’ after Netflix released the documentary “In the Name of God: A Holy Betrayal” in March. It was rumored that cafe run by Kyoungyoon’s parents was on the list of businesses related to the religious cult JMS.
At that time, DKZ’s agency explained the controversy, confirming that his parents were not aware of the issue and had stopped operating the cafe. Since then Kyoungyoon also announced his hiatus from group activities due to anxiety disorder and social phobia.
