DinDin’s mention of former “2 Days & 1 Night” member Kim Seon Ho in his award speech draws mixed responses from netizens
Singer DinDin sparked controversy after referring to Kim Seon Ho, who dropped out of “2 Days & 1 Night 4” due to a personal life scandal.
DinDin and Ryu Soo Young won Top Excellence Award in Show and Variety Category at the 2022 KBS Entertainment Awards held at KBS Hall in Yeouido, Seoul on December 24th.
DinDin took the stage and delivered his acceptance speech. He said, “To be honest, I didn’t expect to win an individual award. I wanted to get Best Program but the members kept telling me that I would have one for myself”, adding “I don’t think I’m good enough. While filming the show, the members always happily accepted what I said even though it might make them feel bad. Thank you, Jong Min hyung, Jung Hoon hyung, Se Yoon hyung, In Woo, (Yoo) Seon Ho and another Seon Ho.”
In particular, DinDin drew attention as he did not forget to mention the name of Kim Seon Ho, a former cast member who dropped out of “2 Days & 1 Night” last year, in his acceptance speech. At that time, Kim Seon Ho stopped his activities due to a private life scandal related to his ex-girlfriend shortly after completing tvN’s drama “Hometown Cha Cha Cha” in October last year. The actor has resumed his activities by filming new drama and movie projects.
In response, netizens gave divided opinions. While many people left positive comments, such as “There’s no problem with his speech”, “This is so heartwarming”, “Of course, he cares for his former member”, etc., others criticized DinDin, saying “He’s so rude to the new member”, “Why did you mention the member who dropped out due to a private life scandal?”, “ Are you having a war or nerves with the viewers?”, etc.
Moon Se Yoon, who won Daesang last year, also mentioned Kim Seon Ho in his acceptance speech but DinDin received colder responses. This might result from the recent controversy over his slip of the tongue.
Earlier, DinDin appeared on a radio show ahead of the 2022 Qatar World Cup and made disparaging remarks towards Korea’s national soccer team, such as “With this performance, I think we will have 1 draw and 2 losses”, “Honestly, I enjoy watching soccer these days. It’s annoying because everyone keeps saying ridiculous things like ‘I think we will get to the Round of 16’”, “Why are you guys turning this into a wishing party?”, “I can see Bento’s expressions”, etc.
Later when Korea’s national soccer team dramatically advanced to the Round of 16, DinDin immediately released an apology through Instagram Story. However, he was even criticized more for being insincere.
