Court Dismissed Yoo Ah-in’s Accomplice’s Appeal & Claim Of Being Foreign Offender

According to legal circles on December 26th, Judge So Joon-seop of Seoul Central District Court’s Criminal Division 32 rejected the quasi-appeal against the police’s search and seizure filed by A, the Korean-American identified as an accomplice in the drug case of actor Yoo Ah-in, on November 17th.

The quasi-appeal is the process of asking for a re-judgment from the court due to dissatisfaction with the trial, such as decisions of the judge, prosecutor or police.

On the same day, A claimed himself as a foreign offender and that the Korean police had no jurisdiction over him. However, the court rejected his claim, saying “It is possible to conduct the investigation”. It is known that A made the argument about Korean police’s lack of jurisdiction because both his nationality and the place where he committed the crime were in the US.

Earlier in April, the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency’s Drug Crime Investigation Unit conducted a seizure and search on the accomplice who took drugs with Yoo Ah-in.

Yoo Ah-in has been on trial for habitually administering several kinds of drugs 181 times from September 2020 to March 2022. In addition, the actor reportedly purchased and received 1100 sleeping pills prescriptions under the name of another person from May 2021 to September 2022.

The second trial for Yoo Ah-in’s drug allegations will be held at 10 a.m. on January 23rd.
