BTOB Lee Chang-seop’s Solo Variety Show Apologizes For Staff’s Power Overuse Controversy

Web variety show “Jeongwaja” made an apology on the controversy over staff’s power abuse at Korea University

On October 5th, a video was posted on the YouTube channel “ootb STUDIO,” titled “How to Win a Speech Fight Only with Philosophy, Korea University’s Philosophy Department.”

In a fixed comment on the video, the production team of the show said, “We’re sorry for the inconvenience caused by the production team. We sincerely apologize. We are doing our best not to cause inconvenience to students participating in classes and using school facilities in the university while filming.”

The team added, “We respectfully apologize for the inconvenience the students had while passing and using the school while using the same space as them during the filming at Korea University,” and apologized for the problem that the staff overused their power to the students at the time of the filming of the Korea University episode.

“In the case of outdoor spaces, there are cases where we ask for people’s understanding and controlled for a while to prevent crowds from flocking for safety reasons, but when filming Korea University students’ restaurant, a large crowd suddenly gathered in a limited space, causing inconvenience, so we had to control the traffic into the restaurant for a while due to safety issues such as stairs,” they explained.

The production team apologized respectfully for this, saying, “If you felt uncomfortable with our production team’s words and actions, asking the students not to cheer for the cast nor take photos, we will strive to further improve this part in the filming process in the future.”

Earlier, controversy over the power abuse of the production team erupted, as many students were ordered to not make noises, pass by or take photos at their own university facilities.

In addition, in the video released that day, an undergraduate student at Korea University said, “I don’t understand the staff’s behavior when they filmed this, so I leave a comment,” adding, “They restrained the students from using the student center and told us not to talk among themselves.” The controversy grew further and students demanded an apology for the staff’s abuse of power.

Jeongwaja is a campus cultural project variety program hosted by Lee Chang-seop, a member of the group BTOB.
