BLACKPINK becomes No.1 KPOP groups in terms of YouTube achievements

With this new achievement on YouTube, BLACKPINK once again affirms their top spot in the KPOP industry

According to YG Entertainment on Oct 30th, the music video for “Lovesick Girls” surpassed 500 million views on YouTube at 11:49 PM (KST) yesterday. It has been about 1 year and 1 month since its release and it is also Blackpink’s 11th overall group video to reach 500 million views.

BLACKPINK

“Lovesick Girls” is a song with a lyrical melody and Blackpink’s powerful vocals on top of the country-style guitar sound. Jisoo and Jennie participated in writing and composing this song. Unlike previous works that became popular for their intense performance-oriented composition and directing, Blackpink members’ mature inner acting has been well received.

The music video for “Playing With Fire”, one of the title tracks of Blackpink’s second digital single “SQUARE TWO”, also surpassed 700 million views on YouTube at 0:55 AM that day. Although it has been 5 years since its release, “Playing With Fire” is still capturing fans’ hearts as it is a song that revived Blackpink’s girl-crush charm.

With this, BLACKPINK has released 9 video contents with more than 700 million views, including “Playing With Fire”, “DDU-DU DDU-DU” (1.7 billion views), “Kill This Love” (1.4 billion views), “Boombayah” (1.2 billion views), “As If It’s Your Last” ( 1 billion views), “How You Like That” (900 million views), “How You Like That performance video” (800 million views), Jennie’s solo song “SOLO” and “Whistle”. This is the highest record for a K-pop artist.

BLACKPINK

With a total of 32 videos that hit hundreds of millions of views on YouTube, Blackpink’s performance on YouTube is truly unique. The cumulative number of views has exceeded 20.7 billion, and the number of subscribers to the official YouTube channel is now over 68.8 million, ranking first in this field among male and female artists worldwide. In addition, the total number of Instagram followers of each member and the group itself is 250 million.

With this far-reaching power, Blackpink is taking the lead in various social contribution activities such as UN SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) ambassadors. On Nov 1st and 2nd, leaders from all over the world will gather at the “26th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP26)” to deliver messages which raise awareness of climate change issues and encourage environmental protection.
