Lee Sun Kyun tragically passed away on December 27, 2023, amid a police investigation for suspected drug use.
A report reveals that Lee Sun Kyun’s co-star in “My Mister”, IU, visited his funeral late at night when the reporters weren’t present for photos.
IU and Lee Sun Kyun played the two leads in “My Mister” (2018). The series follows Ji An and Uncle Dong Hoon, two individuals leading different lives but share the commonality of navigating the hardship of society. Together, they go through pressure and mend scars from the past. “My Mister” won Best TV Drama at the 55th Baeksang Arts Awards.
During an interview, IU said Lee Sun Kyun was one of her best acting partners. She expressed her gratitude for the valuable lessons she picked up from him during the filming of “My Mister”.
This isn’t the first time IU has had to said goodbye to a friend who chose to leave this world through suicide.
In 2019, Sulli and Goo Hara committed suicide after suffering from epression. Within a month, IU had to say her goodbyes to two friends.
During a live performance, IU poured her heart out about Sulli’s passing. “You always made it to my concerts despite your busy schedule. It’s been a month since our last encounter, but I don’t want to let the tears flow. I can’t bear to let you see my vulnerability and pain. I believe you’re still here with us as always, and I’ll strive to deliver a performance even better than before,” IU shared during the concert.
IU also channeled her emotions into two heartfelt songs, “Peach” and “Red Queen,” dedicated to Sulli.
In 2017, Jonghyun chose to end his own life. At the funeral of the SHINee member, IU couldn’t contain her grief, breaking down into tears. She and Jonghyun started their journey in the industry together. IU revealed that she had urged Jonghyun to take care of themselves and nurture their mental well-being. Nevertheless, Jonghyun opted for an escape from the overwhelming pressures of life.
